Public Health
"By making sure that everyone has health insurance and investing in prevention, we can save
money and build a healthier community."
Fighting for Public Health and Affordable Healthcare Coverage for All
- By investing in proven methods of reducing smoking and obesity, we can make sure our community
is healthier while saving taxpayers millions in healthcare costs. As Ben Franklin said, "
an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure."
- For too long, healthcare policy has been written by the big insurance and pharmaceutical companies.
Too many of our neighbors lack basic health insurance. As a result, they end up taking scarce emergency
room resources and getting inadequate care for their families. We need to make sure that every family
in our state has basic health insurance to keep our community healthy and make sure emergency rooms are
available for emergencies.
- As a neighborhood leader, I have worked on passing the smoke-free workplaces ordinance in Cambridge,
and I supported the extension of the ordinance statewide, so that restaurant and bar patrons and
especially workers can breathe cleaner air.
