Open Government

"As your state representative, I want to make it easy for you to find out what's going on at the State Legislature, and help you make your voice heard on Beacon Hill."

  • For too long, the legislature has been disconnected from the people. We all should be able to easily find out what's going on at the State House. Today's lack of transparency fosters backroom deals that benefit big corporations and special interests, and hurt us.

  • I do not believe that elected officials should hold two elected offices at the same time. The point of government service should be to do good, not to become wealthy. When taxpayers pay full-time wages to representatives, they have a right to expect full-time work.

  • We need to make it easier for people to participate and vote. That's why I support motor-voter registration and same-day voter registration. I am interested in looking at other initiatives to encourage people to get involved.

  • Massachusetts was built on a promise of liberty and democracy. It is up to us to make sure that promise is fulfilled.
Avi Green will work full-time to clean up the mess on Beacon Hill.
Mr. Toomey, on the other hand:
  • Is both a Cambridge City Councilor and a State Representative - an arrangement which brought him $118,746.80 of your money in 2003.
  • Consistently voted against the Clean Elections Law which would have reduced the power of big money in politics.
  • Is a lieutenant of House Speaker Finneran and has voted with the Speaker 97% of the time (source: TARG 2004)
  • Voted to extend Finneran's term and later to remove the term limit altogether (House Bill 1999, 1/26/99).
